Weekly Wrap for Jan. 13th

Essential Pieces,
We have long weekend ahead of us. As we embark on Martin Luther King Jr. Day please remember to celebrate by serving others. Thank you, third grade team for making our celebration of the holiday a memorable one. Our Martin Luther King celebration was featured in the Saturday addition of the Winston-Salem Journal. You can check it out on theJournal’s website. The link is posted below. I would like to leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Dr. King that I live by:

“Everybody can be great; because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don’t have to know Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermo-dynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We will be reviewing the data for discussion. This week the PTA will be selling holiday gifts through Santa Workshop. This is a fundraiser for the PTA. Please encourage the students to buy gift items from Santa’s Shop. The prices are very economical. Please remember to pay your PTA Dues. The “T” in PTA stands for teacher. Weekly Wrap for Nov 30th.

Season greetings Essential pieces!,
Welcome to our blog! I hope you all had a great week back at work. This week 3rd and 4th grade were able to participate in our newly implemented monthly planning day. They were able to accomplish several weeks of planning. Thank you to Mr. Maglio for putting the schedule together to make this happen! Please remember that you should be following your daily schedule. I have noticed that several of you have not been following your schedules or you are at least 15 to 25 minutes behind. Please make sure your objectives are current and your essential questions should be posted for each subject area. It is the expectation that you implement strategies and activities from your Partners in Mathematics training and indicators into your daily instruction. I have seen some of you use the activities from the trainings, however that is just a few. This is not optional, this is the expectation. Please make sure you are posting up quality student work. Several of you do not have quality student work samples posted inside or outside of your rooms. Please remember to do this.

Important Reminders:
  • All Teachers in grades K-5 stated in PLCs that they wanted to improve in implementing small, cooperative groups according to their CWT data. We will be looking for evidence of this in the areas of math and reading.
  • Remember to complete your data analysis sheet highlighting your strengths, improvements and next steps with your CFA data. Some of you only turned in your data. This is due by Dec. 8th.
  • SMART Tutor Training during PLCs on Dec. 7th and 8th.
  • Technology Demonstration Classrooms have training on Dec. 9th. (Promethean training)
  • Please start your CFAs by Dec. 10th.
  • If you have over 10 absences you will be required to provide a Doctor's note this is in accordance to school board policy.
  • Please remember that we will be hosting a Holiday open house for our parents on Dec. 18th.
  • Please remember to treat all staff, parents, and students with dignity and respect!!!
